Something we're thinking about.

A different way your app could look and feel.

Nothing has changed. Your app is exactly where you left it, and it stays that way. This is only a drawing of an idea, and it does not go anywhere near real unless you like it.

Instead of squares, a place.

Right now your app opens onto four boxes. This is the other idea: one open place, with your things sitting in it. The closest one is always the smallest and easiest. The further away something is, the bigger it is to do.

You never have to read the screen to work out where to start. Whatever is closest is the one.

Six things here, and your eye still lands on one. The far ones are soft on purpose. They are not going anywhere and they are not asking.

When there's less
you pull the screen down with your thumb

One thumb, any time you want, and the far things drift back past the edge. No question, no buttons, and nobody is told you did it.

Nothing was taken away and nothing is hiding. You moved, and your things stayed where they were. Your fox is here, three things you like are already in reach, and everyone is still around, just further off.

Doing one doesn't tick a box.

You touch the closest thing and it comes up into your hand. Holding it isn't doing it, so you can put it straight back down and nothing anywhere remembers that you picked it up.

And when you do finish it, it doesn't get crossed off and vanish. It falls, and it becomes part of the ground you're standing on.

You touch it

It's already under your thumb. Nothing to read, nothing to choose.

It's in your hand

Let go and it goes back exactly where it was. No note is kept about it, by anyone.

It becomes ground

One more light down there, and it stays forever. Nothing slides up to replace it.

Everything you've ever done is under your feet.

That glow along the bottom is not a score and not a count, and the app never says a number about it or comments on it. It is just every single thing you have ever done, and it only ever gets deeper.

There is no calendar in it and no dates, which means there is no such thing as an empty square. A week where nothing happened doesn't leave a hole. It just isn't there.

Three little lights, and the place is already whole. They are three things you did. They are not three out of anything.

This is the part we like most. You stand on it every time you open it, and it is all yours.

Someone gave you something

Not a balance and not a number on a card. A thing, with the face of whoever gave it to you on the corner. Money, an hour of something, or a step toward what you're saving up for, all arrive the same way.

For everyone else in the circle.

Same place, seen from where you stand in it. Nobody ever sees a list of what Maddy didn't do, in any of these.

One tap does the well done and the money together. Underneath sit his own two things, and three things for him to reach for. He gets a day too.

Putting the phone down is the good outcome, so the screen gets emptier rather than finding him something to look at.

They only ever see what you choose to share. No things, no list, no way to work out what kind of day you had.

A friend gets the exact same screen you do, with their own things in it. Neither of you is the one being looked after.

What do you think?

Anything at all. The bit you liked, the bit that felt wrong, the bit that made no sense, the thing you'd miss from how it works now.

If something about this feels bad, that is the most useful thing you could possibly tell us. It is easy to change while it is still a drawing, and much harder later.

And if you would rather it stayed exactly as it is, that is a real answer and it wins.

You don't have to say anything, or say it now. It'll keep.
